Position:  Field Service Technician

Reporting Office: 503-60 Columbia Way, Markham, ON L3R 0C9
Salary: $24.00-$25.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Other benefits: Optional group insurance benefits including medical, dental and eyecare coverage on cost sharing basis
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 35-44 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Set up and install all necessary hardware components, including cash registers, touchscreen monitors, barcode scanners, receipt printers, customer displays, payment terminals, inside/outside menu boards & Kiosks.
  • Ensure that hardware components are securely mounted and properly connected.
  • Install the POS software on designated computers or servers.
  • Configure the software based on the business’s preferences, such as menu items, pricing, taxes, and user roles.
  • Ensure that the software is up to date with the latest patches and updates.
  • Establish network connectivity for the POS system, including wired or wireless connections.
  • Ensure that all devices can communicate effectively within the network.
  • Conduct thorough testing of the POS system to identify and resolve any software or hardware issues.
  • Verify that all hardware components function correctly and that transactions can be processed without errors.
  • Provide user manuals or documentation for the POS system to help the business’s staff troubleshoot problems and navigate the system.
  • Maintain records of configurations and setup for future reference.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for the POS system, including troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates, hardware maintenance, and system backups.
  • Address any additional questions or concerns to guarantee a positive customer experience.

Specific Job Requirements

  • 7-12 months experience in installing and servicing POS systems, cash registers, receipt printers, barcode scanners, payment terminals, inside/outside menu boards & Kiosks.
  • Proficiency in computer hardware and software installation.
  • Understanding of various POS software systems and the ability to configure and troubleshoot them.
  • Knowledge of networking principles and the ability to set up and configure network connections for POS systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required
  • Moderate oral/written communication skills in English
