Accounting Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Accounting Technician is responsible for and will support the Finance team in all areas including, but not limited to, full cycle accounting functions (A/R and A/P), reconciliations, and month-end closing. The position will take ownership of ensuring transactions are recorded accurately in the general ledger and is responsible for maintaining accurate supporting schedules for key balance sheet. The Accounting Technician will be the technical lead for the compilation of large amounts of data into reports for management and will support the Controller in reporting and analysis on a monthly and annual basis. The Accounting Technician will assist in the implementation of these new technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy within the accounting processes.

Requirements of the role include having a fundamental knowledge of ASPE and audit principals. A key focus is to assist in maintaining a high standard of accounting and financial processes and ensure accurate financial reporting and control.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the position are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

• Assist to perform accounting operations including invoicing, A/R, A/P, GL, and cost accounting
• Key support in preparation of monthly financial statements for both Canadian and US entity of ALMAG
• Manage journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts with ownership of prepaids & deposits, capital assets, payroll related and miscellaneous accruals, among others
• Contribute to report analysis including spend/quantity analysis, cost breakdowns, and identifying patterns to present to management
• Primary contact for internal and external reporting requests, data compilations, and ad-hoc projects
• Prepare sales tax filings for both Canada and USA (HST and Use Taxes)
• Build dashboards and other reporting tools to provide cost analysis frameworks to department leaders across the organization
• Support in the implementation of a new accounting system
• Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
• Coordinate and provide all necessary documentation to external auditors for the annual audit
• Other tasks/projects as required

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience

• Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or other related field is required
• Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in accounting/bookkeeping field is required
• Knowledge of Navision/ Business Central/EPICS an asset

• Proficient with Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills
