Apprentice Plumber

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

• Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and other equipment.
• Work on systems for water distribution, waste disposal, and drainage.
• Support with the installation of sinks, toilets, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine the layout of plumbing systems and materials required.
• Understand technical documents and follow specifications under the guidance of a licensed plumber.
• Assist with selecting the appropriate type and size of pipes, fittings, and other plumbing materials.
• Prepare materials for installation by cutting, bending, and threading pipes.
• Assist in diagnosing plumbing problems such as leaks, clogs, or faulty equipment.
• Learn to use various testing equipment and techniques to identify issues in plumbing systems.
• Assist with the maintenance and inspection of existing plumbing systems.
• Learn to identify and repair minor defects or issues in plumbing systems.
• Report progress and issues to the supervising plumber.

Specific Job Requirements

• A minimum of 3-6 months of prior experience in an assisting plumbing role is required.
• Completion of secondary school (high school diploma or equivalent) is required.
• The position requires registration with Skilled Trades Ontario as an apprentice. The candidate must be willing to register and complete a registered apprenticeship program in due course.
• Basic English communication skills required for effective verbal communication with the customers.
