Salary: $40.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 32.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable 44 hours of work per week

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in commercial trucks and trailers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, and brake systems (air and hydraulic).
  • Address electrical system malfunctions, including lighting, alternators, and wiring issues.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and fluid top-ups.
  • Inspect and replace tires, ensuring proper alignment and rotation.
  • Perform pre-emptive maintenance to identify and prevent potential breakdowns.
  • Ensure all repairs meet the standards outlined by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and other applicable regulations.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records for each vehicle, following company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and organize tools and equipment in the shop.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior mechanics.
  • Order replacement parts and maintain inventory for regular maintenance and repair tasks.

Specific Job Requirements

  • 7 to 12 months of experience as a licensed truck & coach mechanic is required.
  • A valid Truck and Coach Technician (310T) license issued by the Skilled Trades Ontario or equivalent provincial certification is required.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of trucks, including diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of truck mechanics, including the ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
  • Oral/written English language skills with an ability to engage in verbal interactions with drivers.
