Salary: $48,000 annually; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions.
Other benefits: Group insurance benefits including medical, dental and eyecare coverage on a cost sharing basis
Vacation: 2 weeks per year
Hours of Work: 44.0 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Prepare dishes as per the restaurant recipes and help to control food costs and other kitchen related operating expenses, i.e., rotating raw food inventory to avoid expirations, preventative maintenance of kitchen equipment etc.
  • Create and update the menu, ensuring a variety of dishes that appeal to customers while aligning with the restaurant’s theme and offerings.
  • Oversee the preparation of all meals, ensuring that food is prepared to the highest standards of taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Manage inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary and minimizing waste.
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring they follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Monitor the consistency and quality of dishes being served, adjusting recipes or methods as needed.
  • Ensure the kitchen adheres to health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
  • Work closely with the front-of-house staff to ensure a seamless dining experience for customers, including managing timing and coordinating service.
  • Address any issues in the kitchen promptly, including equipment malfunctions or staff shortages, to ensure smooth operation.

Employment Requirements

  • 1-2 years prior experience as a Cook or a Chef, preferably in a pub or restaurant setting is required.
  • Completion of Secondary School is required
  • Demonstration and experience of use of standard concepts and practices in handling/rotating food supplies
