Salary: $30.00-$40.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable 44 hours of work per week

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Diagnose and repair common mechanical and electrical problems involving engines, braking systems, steering, suspension, transmissions, and other vehicle systems, with guidance from senior technicians where required.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and general repairs, including oil and fluid changes, brake servicing, tire replacement and rotation, battery replacement, and other preventative maintenance.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and identify worn, damaged, or malfunctioning mechanical and electrical components.
  • Use computerized and electronic diagnostic equipment, scanners, testing devices, and other automotive tools to identify faults and assess vehicle performance.
  • Remove, repair, and replace defective or worn components, including brake, steering, suspension, cooling, electrical, and engine-related components.
  • Ensure the work area is clean and tools are properly organized.
  • Prepare service reports and maintain accurate records of inspections, diagnostics, repairs, parts replaced, and maintenance performed.
  • Follow workplace safety procedures and manufacturer-recommended repair and maintenance practices.
  • Communicating with customers to explain repairs and maintenance procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required. Training courses in the automotive technology or a related field an asset.
  • The candidate must be registered as an Automotive Service Technician apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario and continue progressing through the applicable apprenticeship program.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in automotive maintenance and repair work in a garage, dealership, automotive service centre, or similar environment is required.
  • Basic English communication skills required for effective verbal communication with the customers.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of vehicles, including gasoline and hybrid engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, and suspensions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of automotive mechanics, including the ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic codes.
