Salary: $45.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal & Provincial income taxes & other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30-40 hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret sketches, blueprints, and specifications to determine masonry work requirements and calculate materials required.
  • Measure, cut, and trim bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry materials to required dimensions using hand and power tools.
  • Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, structural tiles, and similar masonry materials to construct and repair walls, foundations, and other structures.
  • Prepare and mix mortar, grout, and other bonding materials to the appropriate consistency for masonry work.
  • Lay bricks, stone, and other masonry materials to provide veneer facing to walls and other surfaces.
  • Construct and install prefabricated masonry units according to project specifications.
  • Lay bricks, blocks, stone, and other masonry units to construct patios, garden walls, retaining walls, and other decorative masonry installations.
  • Build and repair masonry structures such as walls, arches, chimneys, fireplaces, and other brick or stone structures as required by project specifications.
  • Use levels, plumb lines, measuring tools, and other equipment to ensure masonry work is properly aligned, level, and completed according to specifications.
  • Repair and restore existing masonry structures by removing and replacing damaged bricks, blocks, stone, mortar, and other masonry materials.
  • Finish mortar joints and masonry surfaces using appropriate jointing and finishing tools to achieve the required appearance and finish.
  • Operate masonry saws, grinders, mixers, and other hand and power tools required to perform bricklaying work safely and efficiently.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment as required to perform masonry installation and repair work.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and other tradespersons to complete masonry work according to project specifications, quality standards, and timelines.

Employment Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on bricklaying & masonry experience is required.
  • Knowledge of masonry techniques and the proper preparation and application of mortar and other masonry materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, sketches, measurements, and specifications related to masonry work.
  • Ability to safely operate masonry hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and other equipment used in bricklaying work.
  • Physically demanding work requires standing, bending, lifting and handling heavy masonry materials, climbing, and working on scaffolding for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors and at various construction sites under varying weather and site conditions.
  • Basic communication skills in English are necessary, with the ability to follow instructions from supervisors and communicate effectively with coworkers.
