Salary: $34.50-$37.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to all applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Job Summary:

The Home Automation Configuration Technician is responsible for the configuration, integration, and ongoing support of smart home automation systems. The position involves programming automation platforms, configuring connected devices and mobile applications, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring seamless operation of smart home technologies. The role supports the successful delivery of home automation projects by providing technical expertise, system optimization, and customer training while maintaining high standards of quality and client satisfaction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configure, program, and customize home automation systems, including smart lighting controls, motorized shades, security systems, thermostats, sensors, and other connected devices according to project requirements and client preferences.
  • Set up and integrate smart home platforms, mobile applications, and cloud-based services to ensure seamless communication between devices and automation ecosystems.
  • Configure automation schedules, scenes, user profiles, notifications, remote access features, and other system settings to optimize functionality and user experience.
  • Conduct system testing, diagnostics, and performance verification to ensure devices and automation functions operate as intended.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software, configuration, connectivity, and device compatibility issues through remote and on-site support.
  • Maintain and update system firmware, software, and device settings to ensure security, stability, and compatibility with evolving technologies.
  • Review project specifications, technical documentation, and system requirements to ensure accurate implementation of smart home solutions.
  • Provide clients with training and guidance on operating smart home systems, mobile applications, automation features, and basic troubleshooting procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, programming updates, service activities, and customer support interactions.
  • Coordinate with smart home technicians, suppliers, and clients to support project completion and ongoing customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor emerging smart home technologies and software platforms and recommend improvements to enhance system performance and user experience.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Completion of a college diploma, certificate program, or post-secondary coursework in information technology, electronics, telecommunications, computer systems, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • At least one year of experience in the configuration, support, or maintenance of smart home technologies, including mobile applications, connected devices, wireless networks, and smart home products is required.
  • Familiarity with smart home automation platforms, mobile applications, and wireless networking technologies is required.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills for client interactions.
