Salary: | $37.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to all applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP. |
Vacation: | 4% of the gross salary |
Hours of Work: | 30.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week |
Job Summary:
The Smart Home Wiring Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining smart home automation systems, with a focus on LED lighting, electrical systems, and connected devices. The role ensures all installations meet technical, safety, and quality standards in alignment with Nlytn’s smart home solutions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, program, and integrate smart home automation systems, including lighting control, motorized shades, security systems, thermostats, smart plugs, and sensors.
- Install and terminate telecommunication wiring for smart home devices, including structured cabling (Cat6/Cat6A), coax, and fiber; mount racks, patch panels, keystones, and wall plates; label and document all terminations.
- Rough-in, pull, and finish wiring for smart control ecosystems such as Control4, Savant, and Lutron, including keypads, dimmers, processors, bridges, and low-voltage power supplies.
- Design and implement wiring layouts, run low-voltage and power cabling, and terminate connections following manufacturer specifications.
- Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and integration plans.
- Test and troubleshoot devices and subsystems to ensure full system functionality and interoperability (Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Ethernet).
- Perform system diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs as required.
- Update firmware/software, configure user interfaces, and provide mobile app controls setup.
- Provide clients with post-installation guidance, training, and basic troubleshooting support.
- Maintain accurate documentation including wiring diagrams, service logs, system settings, and materials usage.
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely project completion.
- Follow all applicable safety standards, electrical codes, and warranty requirements.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Completion of secondary school is required; diploma or technical certification in electrical, electronics, or related field is preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in telecommunications/low-voltage wiring, smart home systems, or automation.
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling and smart control platforms (Control4, Savant, Lutron); familiarity with their programming tools (e.g., Control4 Composer Pro, Savant Studio/Blueprint, Lutron Designer) is required.
- Knowledge of LED lighting systems, low-voltage power, networking, and smart control protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for client interactions.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to client sites as required.
- Knowledge of electrical codes, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
